Paul finds Jordan on a breakaway alley-opp to make it 17-7. Griffin then gets to the basket but can't convert. He's 0-3.

Clippers fighting harder but still not quite sure how to score vs. OKC
  • 5/11/2014 7:48:57 PM Mike.James
Just as an observer of the game, I don't think there's anything that's more annoying to watch than a defender fouling a shooter on a three-point shot. Barnes hits Durant on a three, Durant goes to the line and it's 22-7.

Welp, the Thunder has a 15-point first quarter lead with 4:40 left. Not quite the start the team had envisioned. After Game 3, Chris Paul called Game 4 "a must win." The team sure isn't playing as if that were the case.
  • 5/11/2014 7:49:34 PM Eric Pincus
Must-win game for Clippers - season on the line - 22-7 in the first quarter - yipes
  • 5/11/2014 7:50:17 PM Eric Pincus
    Ibaka corner three - 25-7
  • 5/11/2014 7:51:23 PM Mike.James
The Clippers are 2-15 from the field. That's 13%, which wouldn't be a bad percentage if all the shots came from beyond halfcourt. And when Ibaka makes a three, it's 25-7. This game is getting away from the home team in a hurry.

20-point first quarter lead. You don't see that very often.

  • 5/11/2014 7:52:51 PM Eric Pincus
This is about as bad a game as the Clippers can play
  • 5/11/2014 7:53:05 PM Mike.James
Chris Paul seems to be trying to get other Clippers involved in what has been a totally desultory offense. Maybe it's time for him to start taking control... Clippers are also being outrebounded dramatically again, 10-4 so far.
  • 5/11/2014 7:53:48 PM Eric Pincus
Clippers were shooting 3-16 (18.8%) - they scored (Baby) - improve to 23.5%
  • 5/11/2014 7:54:10 PM melissa.rohlin
Big Baby just forced his way to the basket. His teammates need to follow his example. The Clippers need to get far more aggressive.
  • 5/11/2014 7:55:18 PM Mike.James
Really like the commentary from Jeff Van Gundy. He says "It's a long game" and that the Clippers have plenty of time to get back into the game. No argument here, but for the Clippers, it's been a really long game so far. 29-11 with 2:21 in the first period.
  • 5/11/2014 7:55:54 PM melissa.rohlin
So OKC is outshooting the Clippers, 77% to 24% and outrebounding them, 10-5.
  • 5/11/2014 7:57:06 PM Stacey.Leasca

  • 5/11/2014 7:57:06 PM Mike.James
Barnes, Griffin, Redick, Crawford: a combined 0 for 11. Durant and Westbrook, a combined 7 for 8.
  • 5/11/2014 7:58:22 PM Stacey.Leasca

  • 5/11/2014 7:58:31 PM Eric Pincus
Not just that Clippers are shooting 20% from the field - they're giving up 66.7%
  • 5/11/2014 7:59:42 PM Mike.James
Ibaka playing Griffin tough and blocks his shot out of bounds. Paul then gets another wide-open three pointer and ... misses. LA is a steller 0 for 8 on three-pointers, and most of them have been clear looks.

The moment could not be more dire for the Clippers.

They are in a hole they can easily dig out of by winning or they can be buried even deeper by losing.

The Clippers are down, 2-1, to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference second-round best-of-seven playoff series.

If the Clippers win Game 4 on Sunday at Staples Center, they would tie the series, 2-2.

OKC just missed two shots, followed by two free throws. Could they be cooling down a bit?
  • 5/11/2014 8:00:55 PM Eric Pincus
Chris Paul is the only Clipper with more than 2 points
  • 5/11/2014 8:01:01 PM Eric Pincus
    He has 4
  • 5/11/2014 8:01:10 PM Eric Pincus
    Make that 6
  • 5/11/2014 8:01:22 PM Mike.James
The Clippers' 6-0 run is ended by Reggie Jackson's three-point shot. It's 32-13. OKC is 5-7 from three-point range.
  • 5/11/2014 8:01:41 PM melissa.rohlin
After one quarter: Thunder 32, Clippers 15.
  • 5/11/2014 8:01:57 PM Eric Pincus
At the end of a period - Thunder 32 - Clippers 15 - Clippers shoot 25% from the field - give up 64.7% - in the most important game of the season.
  • 5/11/2014 8:02:13 PM Mike.James
And finally some good news for the Clippers: the first quarter is over.
  • Thunder dominates Q1, leading Clippers 32-15. OKC 65% shooting, holding LAC to 25%. Russ 11p-5a, KD 10p. Live stats: thunder.nba.com
  • END 1: Thunder 32, #Clippers 13. @CP3 6 pts, 3 asts (accounted for all LAC FGs). MORE STATS: nba.com/tvc/index.html… #OneTeamOneGoal
  • 5/11/2014 8:02:54 PM melissa.rohlin
Durant and Westbrook have a combined 21 points and are a combined 7-for-10 from the field.
  • 5/11/2014 8:03:10 PM Stacey.Leasca

  • 5/11/2014 8:04:12 PM Mike.James
Two major goals for the Clippers coming in to Game 4: Improve defensive play and get some offensive production out of J.J. Redick. Well, OKC is shooting 65% and getting open looks almost every time down the court. And Redick played only 5:37 in the first and missed all four shots from the field.
  • 15 points for LAC, ties Thunder Playoff record for fewest points allowed by an opponent in the 1st quarter. #ThunderDefense
  • 5/11/2014 8:07:46 PM Mike.James
That's a really bad foul on Big Baby, bailing OKC out. That's a factor of a guy who's just not in condition and not disciplined.
  • 5/11/2014 8:08:27 PM Eric Pincus
The Clippers have fewer turnovers than the Thunder (4-3) - there - I found something
  • 5/11/2014 8:08:43 PM Eric Pincus
Otherwise - Thunder just killing it everywhere else
  • 5/11/2014 8:08:48 PM melissa.rohlin
The Clippers have come back from a 17-point deficit twice this year. If they can manage to comeback today, it would be their biggest comeback of the year.
  • 9:26 2Q: Thunder 36, #Clippers 23. LAC has scored 10 of last 14 pts.
  • 5/11/2014 8:10:29 PM Mike.James
Clippers look much better at the start of the second, cutting the lead to 36-23. Griffin walks off during a timeout with a bloody mouth. Getting to be a common site of these playoffs. Clippers are on an 8-2 run.
  • 5/11/2014 8:12:48 PM Mike.James
@melissa.rohlin: Well, they're making a little run now. Long way to go, though.
  • 5/11/2014 8:13:05 PM Eric Pincus
Clippers are improved in the second quarter but still trading baskets
