New interim CEO Dick Parsons will take care of the business side, and Doc Rivers -- he's glad to say -- can now concentrate on getting the Clippers to the next level.

Getting ready for tip, wrapping up a little more transcription from Doc's pre-game press conference.

Jamal Crawford receiving his 2nd Sixth Man of the Year Award to standing ovation.  First player to win it on two different teams - oldest to do so (I believe he's 34, without looking it up)

Well, at least there's no threat that the Washington-Indiana game can go into overtime, so the start of the main event won't be too delayed. Pacers throttled the hapless Wizards, 85-63. 63 points in an NBA game? They should be relegated to the DLeague.
  • 5/10/2014 2:38:38 AM Mike.James
Crawford's a great choice for sixth man. There aren't many players in the league more fun to watch ... when he's on. But he'll need to do a lot better than his 2-for-13 in Game 2 to help the Clippers tonight.
  • 5/10/2014 2:40:22 AM Mike.James
Two other very important players for the Clippers tonight: Griffin and Jordan need to resurrect their Game 1 performances. Neither was really there for Game 2.....

Gotta love the Clippers understated intros, you know, the one with the subtle fireworks and lasers.

Thunder win the tip . . . game on
  • 5/10/2014 2:43:42 AM Mike.James
Jeff Van Gundy says Griffin needs to attack the rim more rather than play with his back to the basket. Couldn't agree more. He's always most effective when he's decisive and aggressive.
  • 5/10/2014 2:45:00 AM melissa.rohlin
Blake Griffin makes two free throws, scoring the first points of the game.
  • 5/10/2014 2:45:23 AM Mike.James
Kind of a muted start for both teams, though Griffin gets the scoring started with two free throws after a drive.
  • 5/10/2014 2:46:21 AM Eric Pincus
Blake Griffin posts hard - scores and gets the foul on Ibaka
  • 5/10/2014 2:46:45 AM melissa.rohlin
Mike -- Do you have a mic in Blake Griffin's ear? He attacks the rim immediately following your observation that he needs to be more aggressive.
  • 5/10/2014 2:47:04 AM Mike.James
Jordan backing into Perkins draws an early foul, and Griffin drives and scores on Ibaka. That's the kind of quick, aggressive play Rivers called on Griffin to use. 5-0.

DJ dunk - Clippers up by a touchdown
  • 5/10/2014 2:47:26 AM melissa.rohlin
LOB CITY. CP3 to DJ. Hi, Staples Center crowd. (Does anyone have earplugs I can borrow?)
  • 5/10/2014 2:47:50 AM Eric Pincus
Durant finally scores - Thunder on the board
  • 5/10/2014 2:48:34 AM Mike.James
The Clippers defense looks pretty good so far, Jordan tough inside, though Durant manages a floater down the lane. You just have to figure Durant and Westbrook are going to get their points.
  • 5/10/2014 2:48:49 AM melissa.rohlin
Blake attacks the basket again. Scores again. He has 7 points in the first few minutes of the game. In game 2, he had only 15.
  • 5/10/2014 2:50:01 AM melissa.rohlin
So, yeah, in the first three minutes of Game 3, Blake Griffin has scored more than half of the points he had in all of Game 2.
  • 5/10/2014 2:50:18 AM Mike.James
I'm guessing the conversation went something like this:
Doc: 'Blake, you gotta start driving to the basket the way you always do. Don't give them time to double you.'
    Griffin: OK.
    Apparently, he listened.

CP3 literally straddling Sefolosha there - who was on the ground - scrum fighting for the ball - no whistles either
  • 5/10/2014 3:33:44 AM Mike.James
Matt Barnes has been virtually invisible so far and misses an 8-incher off a feed from Griffin. Barnes is scoreless with one rebound.
  • 5/10/2014 3:35:05 AM melissa.rohlin
OKC has taken its biggest lead of the game, 46-41, with 5:46 left in the first half.

Thunder push ahead by 5 - Clippers a bit out of sorts
  • 5/10/2014 3:36:34 AM melissa.rohlin
OKC has stopped sending the Clippers to the free throw line, where they scored most of their first quarter points. It's bad news for LA, which is shooting a woeful 35% from the field.
  • 5/10/2014 3:37:21 AM Mike.James
Ibaka's wide-open 12-footer pushes OKCs lead to 46-41. The Clippers' offense has stalled. Still, the amazing thing is that the Thunder is shooting 58%, the Clippers 35%. And the Clippers are getting throttled on the boards, 21-11. How is this a five-point game?
  • 5/10/2014 3:38:26 AM melissa.rohlin
Mike: Exactly! The only reason they're in the game is because they're shooting 13 for 14 from the free throw line and have only one turnover, while OKC has 6.
  • 5/10/2014 3:40:20 AM Mike.James
Griffin to Jordan on a dunk and Jordan has a defender getting a piggy-back ride. No call though, and Jordan and Griffin are both cranky ... that's not unusual, of course.
  • 5/10/2014 3:40:57 AM melissa.rohlin
Matt Barnes finally gets onto the scoreboard with a dunk. He's shot 1 for 5 from the field so far this game.
  • 5/10/2014 3:41:07 AM Eric Pincus
Clippers a sharper out of the time out - back within a point
  • 5/10/2014 3:41:29 AM Mike.James
Barnes finally scores on a fine putback, and OKC leads by three. Then Barnes hits from the corner to cut it to one.
  • 5/10/2014 3:42:20 AM Eric Pincus
Clippers back up on top 49-48, forcing an OKC timeout - nice game tonight
  • 5/10/2014 3:42:35 AM melissa.rohlin
After trailing by 5 points, the Clippers have taken back the lead. It's 49-48 with 3:34 left in the first half.
  • 5/10/2014 3:42:44 AM Mike.James
Chris Paul elbow jumper and the Clippers are back on top, 49-48. There aren't a lot more automatic baskets in the league than that one.

Matt Barnes steal and dunk has Staples fans on their feet - Perkins answers and they sit down
