EarthCam, which bills itself as the 'premier network of scenic webcams' says you may miss the panda cam but you can still see ospreys, elephants and burrowing owls with its cams. (Very little going on at those spots as of the writing of this post.) But the EarthCam at Zoo Atlanta had pandas. When I just peeked, a mom was snuggling a cub. Hard to beat. There also are monument cams -- the Statue of Liberty crown cam (see below), Washington Monument, etc.

Comment from reader Sara Lipton: This is getting out of hand! My three kids get along better than this, not to mention the toll this is taking on my family and we aren't employed by the government. I could run this country better

Comment from reader Ollie Cooperwood: Speaker does need to allow a vote. That way if it fails we then have a leg to stand on.
President Obama, in his speech at a Maryland small business moments ago, really pinned the government shutdown directly on Speaker John Boehner, saying he is the ONLY thing standing in the way of reopening the government completely.

Obama, live in Md.: "As reckless as a government shutdown is ... an economic shutdown that results from default would be dramatically worse.... "If we get screwed up, everybody gets screwed up. The whole world has problems ... It would be the height of irresponsibility. ... There will be no negotiations over this. ... You don't get to demand some ransom in exchange for keeping the economy running."
Obama, live in Md." "You don't negotiate by putting a gun to another person's head ... or putting a gun to the American people's head."

Obama, live in Md: "Republicans need to stop careening from one crisis to another ... We've had one of these crises every three months."

Obama, live in Maryland: "The Affordable Care Act has gone through every single democratic process, all three branches of government, it's the law of the land, it's here to stay. ... A Republican shutdown won't change the fact that... the Affordable Care Act is being implemented. ... All the shutdown is doing is making i harder for ordinary americans to get by."
#Mstreet #georgetown #DC #Shutdown usually busy road for a #Thursday at the time of the picture. But it sure is a beautiful place to be when it's empty. My early mornings ???? afternoon rush hour still cray tho.
