    Between 4 a.m. Thursday and 4 a.m. Friday, most areas in Los Angeles County had seen half an inch or more of rain. In parts of Ventura County, the rain was heavier.

    Up to 1,000 homes in the area affected by the Colby Fire in Azusa and Glendora are under a mandatory evacuation order amid fears that mud and debris could inundate their homes. The Glendora Police Department urged residents to leave, warning that they faced “injury and/or death.

    The good news is that the San Gabriel Mountain dams could get a major fill-up from this storm system. Although there is no danger the dams will be breached, officials are still warning of the possibility of mudslides in fire-ravaged areas.

    We're starting off pretty good as you'll see.  As of 5:35, the L.A. freeway network is mostly green, but heavy rain likely to change that.  SLOW DOWN.

    The Los Angeles National Weather Service tells us that these two storm systems -- the last 2 days of February -- saved #DTLA from the being the driest Dec-Feb on record.

    It's coming down in Ventura County. National Weather Service warns residents there to be on the lookout for widespread "ponding" of water.

    Why all the concern about mudslides?  --- > In 1969, massive mudslides that came after a wildfire the year before destroyed 200 homes and killed 34 people.

    The risk is greater now because there are 70% to 80% more structures in the danger zone than in 1969 and that 90% of the hillside vegetation was burned.

    Workers have been erecting barriers to direct the flow of any mud and debris that comes down from the Colby fire burn area. In Glendora, the vulnerable area is about a three-mile stretch from the city's western border to Loraine Avenue.

    How much rain fell so far?  Well, 0.55 inches of rain fell between 4 p.m. Thursday and 4 a.m. Friday at LAX.

    In Agoura Hills, 0.78 inches fell over the same period, an 0.86 inches fell in Monte Nido, a community near Calabasas. Roughly 0.3 inches fell in Redondo beach, Van Nuys, and Eagle Rock.

    Prior to these storms current weather systems, just 1.2 inches of rain had been recorded in the region since July 1, the start of the rain-measuring year. 

    And the heaviest rainfall has yet to come.
